The thrash-metal band V.A.R. (Vratislavice Alcoholic Roar) had formed in Liberec, Czechoslovakia in 1989. They recorded their album "No Place to Hide" shortly after the collapse of the communist regime to the great satisfaction of then starved audience fed up with decades of authoritarian censorship. The lower quality of the recording was due to the limited availability of decent recording equipment, typical for underground studios in the Eastern Block at that time. Listening to the album revives a certain nostalgia, a reflection of riches perhaps then taken for granted - such as the band's effective raw and sting expression. The unique sound of V.A.R can be instantly recognized amongst thousands of metal bands. Despite V.A.R.'s gradual drift from their musical origins, their demo "No Place to Hide" played a fundamental role in the rise of Czech thrash metal scene. V.A.R. is thought to be a response to Frankfurt's band TANKARD including their "alko image".
Hells Headbangers is the *ONLY* U.S./North American distributor of this Doomentia (Czech Republic) LP release.
