The bleakest, most powerful ATOMIZER offering, completely evolved and removed from the conjurations of any other thrash or black metal outputs of today. The band has stripped down their already well-known style and dejected the atomic metal power with a dismal aggression full of depth and gritty catchiness backed by a strong murky production, compliments of Kurt Ballou (Converge). In addition to the radical audio and superb gloom packaging, guest contributions have been made by drummer Sean Cummiskey (Astriaal), Iscariah (ex-Immortal, Dead To This World) and Yasuyuki (Abigail, Barbatos).

Caustic Music For The Spiritually Bankrupt - Album Report 7
August 22, 2007 - Wednesday
Atomizer 'Caustic Music' Phase 1 Complete
Over the last couple of days we recorded the drums for the forthcoming and final Atomizer album 'Caustic Music For The Spiritually Bankrupt'. Sean Cummiskey from Astriaal dedicated his immense skills to this recording and has delivered a drum performance second to none! I am completely overwhelmed by his ideas, delivery, dedication and hospitality and cannot fucking wait for people to hear this album!
It won't be mastered till mid December and there's loads to record still to go, but the drums are down and even with the necro as hell demo guitars that are there as guides, it sounds amazing!
'Caustic Music…' will definitely be the statement I always wanted to make!
Caustic Music For The Spiritually Bankrupt - Album Report 6
August 13, 2007 - Monday
We are just a week away from commencing the recording of 'Caustic Music...' and everything seems to be coming together really well.
Nothing has changed really in terms of content and I'm really anxious to get everything done and then released.
Been working on reams of liner notes for the LP booklet... hope I can fit it all in he he.
Expect the most innovative and unique expression from Atomizer ever!
Caustic Music For The Spiritually Bankrupt - Album Report 5
July 21, 2007 - Saturday
We finally have some studio dates booked to get the sessions started and by the end of September everything will be tracked and set for Kurt Ballou to mix! Really buzzed to finally see this all come to fruition as it seems to have taken forever to get from A to B this time. Admittedly I haven't approached it in the same way as in past recordings, but for me, playing guitar and bass on this album is quite a big thing and though some of the guitar playing may not be as advanced as on previous albums, there is definitely more going on and more to remember he he.
I've been hard at work rehearsing and working on all the liner notes for the LP booklet that will be approx 20 pages long. It will include the final Atomizer interview which will be conducted by Tyler Davis of AJNA/Descent (for those who remember this magnificent publication) and will also include the atomizer story, a complete discography with lyrics and an insight into each song. Plus loads of photos, some reviews, flyers etc etc. Will be a really cool addition to this final album without question!
I plan to use my Rickenbacker 4003 for these sessions as I am really keen for that sound to permeate on this release. The bass will really radiate on this album and the sound of the 4003 is really distinct... even on the raw demos I made for this album it sounds amazing. I used the 4001 on pretty much everything else we ever recorded, but due to the modifications that it has undergone and the fact that the frets are pretty much non existent it seems that something with more colour would be ideal.
For the guitars, I will be using a Les Paul studio and an LTD Viper. Ha, maybe some acoustic guitar will even creep on, but 'Weapon...' had some of that too. I guess it all comes down to resonance in the end and whether the electric guitars are overkill in some parts.
So there you go. Hells Headbangers will release this exclusively during the first quarter of 2008 hope and the final chapter will be written.
Oh, and lastly, be sure to check out the forthcoming Dead to This World album. I have written lyrics for 2 tracks on it and it sounds ripping.
Caustic Music For The Spiritually Bankrupt - Album Report #4
June 4, 2007 - Monday
So the commencement date for the recording of 'Caustic Music...' is not completely cemented, I can confirm two things.
1. The drummer who will perform on this album is none other than Sean Cummiskey of Astriaal fame. He and Suds were good pals, mutual respect and all that stuff, and this was the person I really wanted to do this album, so I am pleased to announce his materialisation. We plan to convene in August to rehearse and then record the drum parts for the album!
2. I met with Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou - the man responsible for capturing the devastatingly punishing sound that Converge unleash and he is keen to mix 'Caustic Music...' . Assure youselves that it will have a different sound as a result and I am really excited about this as I think it will make Atomizer sound completely unique and well let's just say I am looking forward to the results!
On a slightly related topic, I predict that the 'Atomic Bloodlust' 10" will go to press during July. Hells Headbangers should get this one out during 2007, but I am not putting any pressure on them to get it out. With all the killer stuff they have on their schedule, I think that as long as this record materialises, whether it's now, next week or in 6 months that it's not too big a deal.
Caustic Music For The Spiritually Bankrupt - Album Report #3
May 21, 2007 - Monday
Just a quick one today. Looks like Yasuyuki from Abigail will also do a guest spot on the forthcoming album. Like Iscariah, I'm not sure at this time what he will do, but he wants to appear, so that's the biggest hurdle I'm sure all would agree.
Caustic Music For The Spiritually Bankrupt - Album Report #2
May 19, 2007 - Saturday
Well these definitely are pre emptive album reports it's true, but it all current activity serves to further the final album when it is recorded.
I sort of invited myself to write some lyrics for the forthcoming Dead To This World album which I am pretty excited about. Those who haven't heard this band, check them out via our homepage... a catchy and devastating assault! Iscariah will be making a guest appearance on the forthcoming Atomizer album too, so pretty psyched for that. Turns out he finds Atomizer to be to his liking, so I'm honoured on both fronts.
The drummer that will perform on 'Caustic Music...' is pretty much 100% locked in and I am looking forward to some opportunities to rehearse with him. I have sought out someone to guide me with the guitar playing for the new album also. Having never recorded guitar before I am working on my technique and approach to these songs to ensure a smooth, consistent and as perfect as can be studio experience. It's my goal to stop playing guitar like a bass player ha ha.
I've been talking to Kurt from Converge about mixing 'Caustic Music...' and he seems interested to do the job, so I'm really hoping that all will fall into place on that front. Anyone who knows how raw and caustic Converge sound know the sort of production that Kurt is capable of generating and as it appears that our musical roots are very similar, I'm confident he'll be perfect for this job. Naturally, the 4th Atomizer LP won't sound like Converge, but I hope that some of that cruel, caustic feeling from their records can manifest on mine. I want these songs to sound like there's decaying meat, rust and death hanging to every note. Achievable? Time reveals all.
Lastly, I've got a cover sorted for the album and think it looks grand and suits the title. It's a photo I took years ago and offered Abominator the use of for their first album. I'm glad now they elected not to.
So, till next time...
Caustic Music For The Spiritually Bankrupt - Album Report #1
May 14, 2007 - Monday
I can honestly say that I have never taken a more casual approach to a recording than I am taking to this one... Atomizer's fourth and final studio album 'Caustic Music For The Spiritually Bankrupt'. And when I say a casual approach, I mostly speak of the time I am taking in order to pull everything together as opposed to the actual effort that is going into it. Naturally, that is 10000% as always!
As mentioned, this will be the final Atomizer release and it will be approx 45 mins of completely new material. Everything was written between January 2005 and January 2007 but with the passing of Suds, there were certain details I wanted to cater for before rushing off and getting it out. The right drummer, the right mixer etc. It looks like I have found the right drummer, but as we won't get to rehearse for a little while, I'll keep their identity under wraps. As for the mixer, we are looking to go 'off shore' and use someone most unexpected. Atomizer was never about trying to be a typical band, and we're definitely not about to start now.
'Caustic Music...' will feature 13 tracks and will be released by Hells Headbangers on CD/LP etc. I hope to do some special format styled thing for this release and while different, I trust it will be the greatest, most diverse Atomizer release ever and a fine swansong.
More soon.
Atomizer 'Atomic Bloodlust' Live 10" MLP
January 22, 2007 - Monday
Shortly, a live 10" Mini LP will be released through Hells Headbangers. Featuring 6 tracks recorded at the Bloodlust Festival back in 2003, there will be 500 vinyl copies and a CD version may follow in the future.
More news when it gets to the pressing plant stage.
Thanks to everyone who posted comments and offered their thoughts on the passing of Suds. I truly appreciated it.
As for the future of the 'band' as it's only myself that remains, there will be one final studio album featuring songs that Suds and I worked on during 2005. The album title has not been finalised yet, and I am not sure who will play drums on it at this time, though I have been talking to someone who I hope will take the job. The playing time will be approx 45 minutes and it will feature entirely new material.
