REVIEW BY NOKTORN:
"To say that this is oldschool would be a vast understatement. Evil Incarnate is music for people who own completely threadbare Throneum and Nunslaughter shirts and about thirty different Angelcorpse patches sewed onto anything they can get their hands on, and not just limited to clothing (Angelcorpse couches/chairs/bedspreads, etc.). This is a band thatĖs part of that oldschool death metal scene that never really changed or went away; it just languishes in its sort of mid-level obscurity, content in its position in the underground. I guess itĖs ironic, then, that that scene routinely produces some of the best metal out there today by virtue of how un-self-conscious it is. And I can imagine that, for people fully immersed in that wide range of subterranean death metal, ÎWaiting For His ReturnĖ is exactly the sort of music that they would love and expect from such a long running band as Evil Incarnate. For those outside of it, itĖs still worth a look, though not with quite the alacrity of those whose Blasphemy hoodies are still stained with blood from when the wearer got in a fight with Chris Barnes outside of BB Kings back in Î94.

LetĖs work backwards and start with the production, which is a perfect replication of the mid-range and mid-Ė90s sound. The mix is completely dominated by the dirty, ultra-bassy guitar tone, which is so distorted as to render some of the more minimalist riffs nearly indecipherable. Drums are pushed into the background and nestled next to the vocals, with only bass drums and cymbals being very readily audible for the former, and not much at all audible for the latter, as the gruff, mid-range growls of Michael Eisenhauer occupy a similar acoustic space to the guitar, pushing them together into a single homogenous mass. The overall sound is very forceful and seething, and it fits the somewhat chaotic style of death metal that Evil Incarnate plays pretty perfectly. ItĖs clean enough to allow the listener to understand everything thatĖs going on, but not so much that the evil, anti-Christian atmosphere is compromised.

The music is structured in a strangely disjointed, linear style, a lot like Immolation minus some of that bands deeply technical passages. Maybe itĖs more like Nunslaughter covering Immolation, injecting more attitude and spite to that bandĖs convoluted constructions. The riffs are entirely unmelodic tremolo/chug affairs that segue into each other somewhat awkwardly, with a complete refusal to construct riffs in a clean, cyclic fashion. ItĖs not ĖsmoothĖ death metal at all, with high production values and ultra-refined songwriting; it sounds like these are the best of the bandĖs basement tracks, with some movements that only make sense to them and just seem bizarre to everyone else. And yet thatĖs part of its charm; for all the strange midpaced Bolt Thrower-esque grinding that the band does, when it works, it really works (midway through ÎTemple Of BlasphemyĖ). The overall tempo of the music here is not very high, and it seems more intent on crafting this blasphemous, evil atmosphere than it does making anything catchy or accessible.

In fact, the band seems entirely bent on making oldschool death metal devoid of thrash bounce or memorable riffs. This gives the music a decidedly darker, more negative tone, not unlike early Suffocation, but without even that bandĖs more lively tremolo riffing. The overall package is very strange and oppressive; I can honestly say that ÎWaiting For His ReturnĖ doesnĖt sound like any other death metal album IĖve heard. It works in sort of a grey area as far as the different corners of death metal go, but one thing is certain: this is probably the most willfully amelodic death metal album IĖve heard recently. Even your most brutal death metal features some catchy riffs or engaging rhythms or melodic solos, but this album is like a sheer face of death metal without any footholds at all. ItĖs very hard to understand, and itĖs most certainly a demanding listen.

For that reason, IĖd say that Evil IncarnateĖs newest LP is worth a try. ItĖs an ambitious release that really gives no quarter to the listener and attempts to fill no expectations. It is the sound of a very specific breed of death metal, and itĖs that breed in its most tumultuous and uncertain state. It is not good-time, easy listening death metal; it is instead the essence of the genre and everything that defines it as the brutal, uncompromising force that it should be."

BIOGRAPHY:
Evil Incarnate was formed to strike the earth with hate for Jesus Christ, his father, and the holy spirit. Going beyond Blasphemy for deliverance from salvation, and purposely going against what is considered typical for Death Metal acts! Evil Incarnate have consistently created a buzz throughout the entire metal world. Everything that you thought you had known about the future of extreme music was just the beginning! Even early on and still merely a vision of what the cult will eventually become.

In the year 1996 Michael Eisenhauer on bass/vocals (ex-member of NUM SKULL) and Andy Vehnekamp on drums (ex-member of JUNGLE ROT) knew that their project band APOLLYN needed more effort and a permanent guitarist to move towards metal elite. It was in 1997 that they had summoned from the abyss the guitar mad man Rob Rigney (ex-member of FEAR SPAWNED RELIGION) and decided to change the name to Evil Incarnate. Later this same year, in darkness of the newly found determination within the members to make this one band their only effort, they recorded the "Evil Incarnate" demo, followed by the "Christ Destroyed" demo in 1998. These years were spent focusing on live performances at underground festivals and clubs across America, broadening their ever increasing fan base.

These now legendary '97 & '98 demos have been re-issued onto CD from labels Deathgasm Rec. (USA) and to cassettes from both Ramu's Rec. (Czech) and Witchhammer Prod. (Thai) under the title "Blood of the Saints". These cult demos have sold over 5,000 copies world wide.

1999 started Evil Incarnate recording a series of CD tribute tracks for Dwell Records (USA). These tributes include SLAYER, BLACK SABBATH, VENOM, TWISTED SISTER, and DESTRUCTION. It wasn't until 2001 and under hells command that this diabolical trinity sent this much fear down the weak spines of the holy ones everywhere with the release of the abominant debut CD "Blackest Hymns of God's Discrace"! A landslide of licensing deals woke with Deathgasm Rec, Morbid Records(Ger), Warhymns Rec. (Col), Extreme Souls Prod (Indo), Morbid Visions (Mex), and still many more that include a 12 inch vinyl LP version of "Blackest Hymns..." on Hells Headbangers.

2002 seen this metal machine touring in Mexico through Morbid Vision Records with very much success. Also, they entered the studio to record the SLAYER track "Piece by Piece" for American label WW3 Music Group's tribute CD with drummer Garrett Scanlan of Chicago's dead band CORPSE VOMIT. So now coming from a country with total freedom of religion and during these times of growing terror and suffering, they prove once again that this beast will be impossible to stop! The new album is called "Waiting for His Return" and is set for a worldwide April 2005 release from HELLS HEADBANGERS. With songs like "Forced Inside Your Church", followers of Satanism will be made aware of the sick reasons behind the lyrics of "St. Michael", and the devastating track "Terror in the Holy Land (9-11)" will raise ancient spirits of war!

So now with the successful Mexican and American tours under their belts, Hell's henchmen Evil Incarnate will be busy pursuing their musical destiny for record label deals and world tours!! Representatives of the music industry and metal maniacs worldwide embrace this band as they lead the people to Satan! Lead them to hell and burn them!!

Support the Global Obliteration of Christianity, Total Satanic Victory!!
